It is both an honour and privilege to serve as the President of the Board of Directors at TanenbaumCHAT. This year, we welcomed six new members to our dedicated Board, and together, we remain focused on advancing the five-year strategic plan we approved in 2024. The plan revolves around four key pillars: Academic Excellence, ensuring students receive an outstanding education; Jewish Literacy and Commitment to the State of Israel, fostering a strong sense of Jewish commitment and belonging; Financial Sustainability and Tuition Accessibility, making TanenbaumCHAT accessible to as many families as possible; and An Outstanding Student Experience, by creating a supportive and enriching school environment. Reflecting upon my own upbringing in South Africa, where I attended a Jewish, Zionist community high school—an institution both my parents also graduated—I recognize the fundamental role a robust Jewish community school plays in the long-term health and continuity of our people. My wife and I feel incredibly fortunate to have found a home in a community with an institution whose values and ideals reflect those that shaped my own upbringing. We are now proud parents of three TanenbaumCHAT graduates, with one more soon to join their ranks.

This year’s Grade 9 class exemplifies remarkable diversity, with students coming from over 60 different elementary schools from across the GTHA. This broad representation highlights the essential role TanenbaumCHAT plays in fostering Jewish continuity, nurturing a love for Israel, and strengthening our communal spirit.

With nearly 1,400 students enrolled and close to 10,000 alumni, TanenbaumCHAT is a cornerstone of the Toronto Jewish community. To our many generous donors, thank you for making TanenbaumCHAT a priority. As we continue to grow and provide an outstanding Jewish and academic experience for all who seek it, we need the support of the entire community—whether or not your child or grandchild is currently enrolled.

Together, we are building a brighter future for our students, our community, and generations to come, and I am thrilled to be a part of it.
