This January, we held our annual Israel Becker International Invitational Basketball Tournament. We hosted teams from Beth Tfiloh Dahan Community High School (Maryland, USA), Bialik High School (Montreal), Charles E. Smith Day School (Maryland, USA), Scheck Hillel Community School (Florida, USA), and Elitzur (Petach Tikva, Israel), our only Israeli representation this year as a result of the current conflict.

After four days and 31 hard-fought games, our TanenbaumCHAT Tigers defended last year’s crown in the girls championship, and the Beth Tfiloh Warriors walked away with the boys championship, competing in the finals against our varsity Tigers.

It was an exciting few days of sportsmanship and athleticism, but more important was the incredible fun and friendship off court. After a day of competition, the teams took to the other side of the stands, attending a Toronto Raptors game, a first for many of our guests. Students from the six different schools bonded over their shared experiences as Jewish teenagers in these turbulent times, building connections and memories that are sure to last beyond the days of the tournament.
